Viva Goa!!

I am taking another trip to my favorite destination within India and nothing compares and no other place finds a place in the same sentence in my life as GOA. Variously known as "Pearl of the Orient" and a "Tourist Paradise", the state of Goa is located on the western coast of India in the coastal belt known as Konkan.

The magnificent scenic beauty and the architectural splendors of its temples, churches and old houses have made Goa a firm favorite with travelers around the world. But then, Goa is much more than just beaches and sea. It has a soul which goes deep into unique history, rich culture and some of the prettiest natural scenery that India has to offer.

Much of the real Goa is in its interiors, both inside its buildings and in the hinterland away from the coastal area.

Well, the reason I am putting this here is to primarily highlight a single point. How to get there and driving directions (for all those who love to take long drives) from Bangalore to Panaji (capital of Goa)

From Bangalore to Panaji Distance = 592 Km

The recommended route is via Tumkur, Davanagere, Hubli, karwar and Margao. Around 580 km. Best road.

While you are still driving, make it a point to visit Gokarna on your way back, do not miss.

Gokarna

Gokarna situated in coastal Karnataka is 453 km from Bangalore and about 55 km from Karwar, the District headquarters. It is described as a Shiva Centre, as important as Kashi and Rameshwar. History has it that the Atmalinga brought by Ravana got struck here and his efforts to extricate it resulted in his throwing the coverings of the Linga to Dhareshwar, Gunavanteshwara, Murdeshwar and Shejjeshwar temples (the last places is very near Karwar).

The Mahabaleshwara is one of the major temples here. The deity here is two-armed, standing, and at least 1500 years' old. The Bhadrakali and Venkataramana temples, Kotiteertha tank etc., are other holy places here. Gokarna is also famous for its beautiful virgin beaches and breathtaking landscapes.

Getting here: Gokarna is well-connected to Bangalore andMysore. Regular buses ply from Karwar, Goa and Mangalore.
